2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Gets Major Upgrades, Two New Trims

2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 has been heavily revised, in order to give it a standing chance against its main rivals. When it was originally released, the Sierra 1500 was criticized for its apparently old interior and for missing some of the new age tech its rivals had. Now, GMC is fixing that with a drastic upgrade for 2022.

The biggest changes you’ll notice will happen on board. The interior takes a page straight from the Yukon’s book and has bigger screens all around, better materials more tech than ever. Every trim apart from the SLT one will get a standard 13.4-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster which is a drastic upgrade compared to the old model’s 8-inch touchscreen and analogue gauges. The car’s infotainment system now comes with the same software as the Hummer EV, based on Google’s Android system.

The exterior of the new GMC Sierra 1500 will also get a few styling tweaks. The grilles have been revised, growing a bit in size and coming with a different texture altogether. The front bumper gets subtle LED foglamps while the DRL system has a new design with a bolder C shape. Included as standard are a set of animated lighting sequences for when you lock and unlock the car.

Another big news though is the introduction of two new trims: Denali Ultimate and AT4X. They are as different as they come, as they focus on completely different things. The Denali Ultimate is, of course, focused on luxury, while the AT4X is giving you more capability in off-roading conditions.

The Denali Ultimate is, according to GMC, the most advanced and luxuriously appointed Denali model ever and the most advanced and luxurious pickup in its class. The Denali Ultimate comes with a unique grille in Vader chrome, along with exclusive 22-inch wheels, finished in Low Gloss Black with machined accents, Vader chrome GMC logo and unique front fender trim featuring Mount Denali.

Additionally, GMC’s six-way MultiPro tailgate, the Denali Premium Suspension with segment-exclusive Adaptive Ride Control, and power assist steps are standard. The Denali Ultimate’s Alpine Umber interior one-ups the already luxurious Denali cabin, with full-grain leather appointments and open-pore Paldao wood trim.

This range-topping version also comes with leather on the door panels and the dash, features 16-way adjustable front seats with massaging function, a 12-speaker Bose sound system and a power sunroof as standard among other things.

On the other side of the spectrum, the AT4X models come with Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, unique springs that increase the front and rear suspension travel by 50 mm and 25 mm respectively, a 2-speed transfer case with different terrain driving modes, front and rear e-locking diffs, a shield for the transfer case and 18” wheels. Both these new trims are available with the 6.2-liter V8 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission.

Last but not least, the GMC Sierra 1500 will come with the Super Cruise driving assistance package that is offered as an option on the Denali versions and comes as standard on the Denali Ultimate, with a three-year subscription included.
