Cadillac, much like every other car maker out there today, has to get ready for the electric future that’s becoming more and more obvious by the day. One of the moves we’ve seen done by a number of brands to seemingly prepare in this regard so far was to change their logo in some way and Cadillac is the latest to add their name to this list.
We’ve seen this done by brands such as Volvo, Volkswagen, BMW and Kia so far, but chances are they won’t be the last. Cadillac just announced a similar move and it looks like their future electric models will be wearing a new badge. The fresh design is basically a simple switch from a colored crest to a black and white one.
According to various reports online, the change was done as far back as September 18, the day reservations for the upcoming electric SUV Lyriq went live. Since this will be Cadillac’s first electric offering in this space, an association of the new logo with the ‘electric revolution’ is understandable.
Furthermore, an official spokesperson confirmed for Fox News Autos that, moving forward, the black and white logo will be used on EVs while the colored crest will still be decorating the front fascia of internal combustion alternatives for as long as they remain in production. When the time will come to change them out for electric models, they will also bear the black and white crest.
“The new crest along with our new tagline ‘Be Iconic’ represent Cadillac’s desire to champion each of us to dream big and become the most aspirational version of ourselves,” he said.
One interesting detail about this new logo though seems to be the fact that it will be illuminated on upcoming models. The first one to get it will be the Lyriq SUV as early as next year, thus marking the first change in the crest design since 2014.
