Kia EV9 Concept SUV Teases New Design, Will Debut In LA Next Week

Kia started a teasing campaign today, focused around the upcoming EV9 model. We’ve been hearing a lot of chatter online about the South Korean manufacturer possibly preparing a bigger offering than the EV6 it currently has on sale and today we got our first official confirmation that a bigger, SUV model is on the way.

Kia teased it with a few obscure pictures of the concept that will preview the production model at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Scheduled to be unveiled in full on November 17, the EV9 concept shows a boxy design, probably created in such a fashion to make the car as aerodynamic as possible.

For now, though, all we have to go on are these pictures as Kia remains tight-lipped for the moment, regarding any possible tech details. However, the South Korean car maker did say that its upcoming model will have a ‘ultramodern exterior design’, whatever that means. If we’re to take a look at the current line-up of cars, things have gone a bit extreme in some segments, while the EV6 looks rather normal for an electric model.

From what we can gather, the new electric SUV will adopt the minimalist trend that is taking over the world right now. The exterior seems boxy, with clear cut lines all over, lacks door handles and has a massive, hexagonal sunroof. Of course, the huge wheels are also included in the mix, as this is a concept after all, and it’s only natural to have certain traits exacerbated.

The cabin seems to follow the same rulebook, with very few physical controls to talk of and a huge widescreen dominating the dashboard. Most likely, the vast majority of controls will have been moved to that screen. We’re expecting to see sustainable materials being incorporated in the car in one way or another, in key areas.

This upcoming EV9 SUV will be using the same E-GMP platform cars like the EV6 and Genesis GV60 are using and will share the stage with the Hyundai SEVEN concept teased last week.
