Lamborghini Enters NFT World With Space Key Artwork

After several days of teasers published on various social media platforms, Lamborghini finally unveiled its first venture into the world of NFTs (non-fungible token). The so-called Lamborghini Space Key artwork has been officially unveiled and will soon be auctioned.

A piece of sophisticated carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini transported to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of a cooperative research effort is at the heart of this rare artwork, made in collaboration with an unnamed artist and restricted to five copies.

The carbon fiber composite is now part of the Space Key, following its return from space, which included all essential testing for research purposes: these materials signal yet another milestone for the company, this time as a gateway into the NFT universe. Through the QR code on the underside of the carbon fiber, each of the five Space Keys is linked to an exclusive and digital artwork by the same unnamed artist.

“Innovation is a deeply rooted part of the Lamborghini DNA,” explains Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “As a leading company for carbon fiber composite materials within the automotive sector we pushed boundaries two and a half years ago with the joint research project in space. Now entering the metaverse is again proof of Lamborghini always setting sail for new horizons. The NFT world has been calling to us, and we are excited about engaging with this very passionate and innovative community.”

According to the Italian company, we should expect further information over the next days and weeks, including the name of the artist who created the Space Key and digital artwork. Other things we’re curious about include the nature of this one-of-a-kind piece of art, the auction house, and the auction date and hour, as well as a link to the auction registration, to get our checkbooks ready.
