Mercedes-Benz Manufaktur Program Expanded

The Mercedes-Benz Manufaktur program used to be a special offering available solely for G-Class customers. It allowed them to customize their cars beyond the usual options listed on the configurator. Seeing just how popular the program was, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer announced that it is opening it up for other models as well, starting this year.

For starters, apart from the G-Class, the Mercedes-Benz Manufaktur program will be available for four additional models: the CLS, the S-Class, the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Customers will get the possibility of choosing exclusive paint finishes, interior materials and even exclusive comfort features.

Included in the list will be some truly special colors. For example, the Mercedes-Benz Manufaktur catalog includes shades of non-metallic paint that are meant to be a throwback to the cars the company built back in the ‘60s and ‘70s. One such clear example is the Manufaktu Graphite Grey, a color made famous by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.

Inside the cabin you’ll be greeted by an even wider array of choices. It’s not like the S-Class or the CLS didn’t have enough diversity already but some more couldn’t hurt, right? However, the Manufaktur catalog brings exclusive choices that aren’t available on the rest of the range, as well as exclusive materials.

One such example is the diamond-patterned stitching on the seats while the tone-on-tone additional cushions for the rear headrests are another example of such possibilities. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz also decided to offer a surround lighting system as part of the Manufaktur range, which is done using animations projected when the doors are opened.

Chances are that, if the program turns out to be a success on these additional four models in the range, it will be offered on a wider scale in the future. Most likely, the top of the range electric models will get it in the future, with cars like the EQS being potential candidates in this regard. The introduction of the Manufaktur program also means that the “designo” individualization option will be no longer available.
