Polestar 4 Could Be A Rival For Upcoming Porsche Macan

The fight in the compact luxury SUV segment is about to get even fiercer with the introduction of more EV models in this space. Teased earlier this year, the Polestar 4 model from Sweden might actually be a rival for the upcoming electric version of the Porsche Macan, if we’re to believe the latest reports.

Even though Polestar didn’t exactly unveil their latest model yet, the Swedish company did leak a few more details about it through its CEO, Thomas Ingenlath. Speaking to UK’s Car Magazine, Ingenlath unveiled the pricing bracket the Polestar 4 will be offered in as well as other details.

On key detail was that the Polestar 4 will be positioned to take on the upcoming Porsche Macan head on. That’s a bold claim, considering that we are talking about a Porsche here, even though it will be an electric one. If the Taycan showed us anything is that Porsche can make the most agile and fun to drive electric vehicles on the market and that’s not likely to change. To keep up, the Polestar 4 would need some impressive specs and, most importantly, suspension work.

Polestar 3

That could be done, as Polestar started off as Volvo’s performance division. Right now, it’s an independent brand and, according to the CEO, the new model will be slightly smaller than the Polestar 3 and will feature a coupe-style roofline. Pricing will be lower than on the Polestar 3 but we were not given an exact figure just yet.

The 4 is intended to be Polestar’s best-selling car, and it will be built on the PMA platform, which is a spin-off of Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). As a result, Geely’s Hangzhou Bay factory in China will be in charge of manufacturing the Polestar 4. as for the company’s future plans, the Polestar 5 was already announced, defined as an “electric performance four-door Grand Touring automobile” that is based on the Precept concept.

Next year we will also get to see the Polestar 3, the bigger brother of the 4 (counterintuitive, we know). Earlier this month, the American-made “luxury electric performance SUV” was teased, promising to “change the aesthetic of SUVs in the electric age.”
