Polestar has unveiled a new teaser image for the Polestar 3 electric performance SUV, which is expected to debut in 2022. Polestar 3 is the company’s first SUV, and it will be the company’s first car to be manufactured in the United States, with production slated to commence in Charleston, South Carolina.
The company’s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, arranged a series of events in New York for investors and the press to explore the company’s vision, brand, and expansion goals. From this series of events we learned that Polestar 3 would be one of the most environmentally friendly cars ever built, with autonomous highway piloting powered by Luminar’s best-in-class LiDAR sensor and centralized NVIDIA computer capability.
“We will build in America for Americans,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “Polestar 3 is planned to be launched in 2022 as a premium electric performance SUV that will define the look of SUVs in the electric age. It will also be the first Polestar vehicle to be built in America.”
Ingenlath also emphasized Polestar’s established production and sales capabilities, stating that the firm expects to debut a new car every year for the next three years, beginning with the Polestar 3, and expand its presence to at least 30 global markets by the end of 2023.
Expanding presence in these new markets, the arrival of three new cars, and further advances in its existing markets, mean that Polestar plans to grow ten-fold from global sales of around 29,000 in 2021 to 290,000 by 2025. “From here on in, Polestar is all about growth,” concluded Ingenlath.
The premium SUV market in the United States is the fastest growing segment in the business right now, and it is projected to be one of the first to adopt fully electric vehicles. For now, Polestar remains mum on the specifications front but sources claim that their upcoming SUV will be offered in single and dual-motor configurations.
Most likely, it will be the most powerful Polestar ever made and it will share some of its underpinnings with the XC90. It’s still unknown when we’ll see the Polestar 3 reaching worldwide markets but we should see it enter production by the end of 2022 even if deliveries will take a bit longer.
