GMC Hummer EV EPA Range Estimated At 329 Miles

General Motors has confirmed that the all-electric GMC Hummer EV will begin shipping to customers in December, adding that it will have a range of 329 miles according to the EPA. The $100,000+ Edition 1 version is the first of the GMC Hummer EV to be made available to the general public. Earlier reports said that the Hummer EV could get a range of about 334 miles, so the official rating from the EPA isn’t that far off.

An electric powertrain with three motors and a 200 kWh battery pack powers the flagship Hummer EV Edition 1. With the ‘Watts to Freedom’ launch control system active, the pickup truck can hit 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds. GMC CEO Duncan Aldred revealed to reporters that more economical models with extended ranges will be available starting in 2023. Aldred went on to say that the Edition 1 accounted for more than 80% of the reservations, with over half of the 125,000 customers who expressed interest putting down $100 to reserve one.

In addition to a high-performance powertrain, GMC has fitted the Hummer EV with a four-wheel steering system that gives it a turning circle of just 37.1 feet, making it scarcely bigger than a Chevrolet Sonic. The Crab Walk feature on the four-wheel steering allows the truck to drive diagonally by turning all four wheels in the same direction.

The Edition 1 model is classified as a heavy-duty truck, due to its sheer size. Tipping the scale over 9,000 pound and with a preliminary gross vehicle weight rating of 10,400 pounds, you can easily understand why that’s the case. Nevertheless, the aforementioned lighter models that will arrive in 2023 will be classified as light duty vehicles. That means that, while the range for the Edition 1 models won’t be officially listed on the EPA website, the upcoming models will, as they won’t fall in the same category.

The Edition 1 comes with the top-of-the-line EV3X powertrain and a base price of $112,595 dollars. GMC has stated that a normal EV3X version will be released around a year after the Edition 1, with a starting price of $99,995. The EV2X and EV2 models, which are less powerful, will be available in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The EV2X will cost $89,995, while the EV2 will cost $79,995.
