LA Auto Show: Porsche Reveals 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sedan And Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo

The GTS nomenclature, which stands for Gran Turismo Sport, is the highest performance street version on Porsche vehicles. This year, Porsche announced that the GTS name would be added to the Porsche Taycan Sedan and the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo.

The 2022 Taycan GTS Sedan and GTS Sport Turismo share several similarities including battery and charging architecture, electric motors, transmission, and interior creature comforts. The 93.4 kWh performance battery makes its way into both vehicles, and they each boast 590hp when using launch control. Both the Taycan GTS sedan and GTS sport Turismo can charge from 5-80% in 22.5 minutes and accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. We do not have official EPA figures as of yet, but Porsche says we should see them closer to the start of deliveries in Q2 of 2022.

The Taycan GTS sedan starts at $131,400 while the Sport Turismo is a couple thousand more at $133,300. Much of the suspension and performance equipment is carried over from the top-model Taycan, albeit some minor tuning and calibration. Porsche increased the size of the front rotors from the Taycan 4S (390mm vs. 360mm), but kept the rear rotors the same.

Purchasing the GTS trim of the Taycan primarily buys you aesthetics. The GTS wears Porsche’s SportDesign front fascia, side skirts, and side window trim in high-gloss black. The standard, satin black 20-inch Taycan Turbo S wheels can be swapped for 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in the same color. On the inside, Porsche fitted a unique Race-Tex package that is reminiscent of other GTS model lines. Customers can option deviated stitching in either red or “chalk” along the dashboards, doors, armrests, steering wheel, and seats. This “GTS Interior Package” also includes “GTS” embroidery on all headrests, a Sport Chrono instrument dial, and the Porsche logo on the floor mats.

Unless you plan on utilizing your Taycan Cross Turismo off-road, then it seems the GTS Sport Turismo would be a better choice. Visually different from the Cross Turismo, the GTS Sport Turismo still offers the same interior space, roof rails, glass roof, and interior aesthetics, but is tuned for sharper handling on tarmac. The GTS Sport Turismo also removes the cladding over the wheel arches, lowers the ride height, and paint matches the rear spoiler, further differentiating itself from the all-weather-branded Cross Turismo.

Overall, the new 2022 Taycan GTS Sedan and GTS Sport Turismo are very similar in spec and carry on Porsche’s tradition of exciting, performance-oriented GTS vehicles.
